Coiled Altar Massively Nerfed — Intermission Health Bonuses Slashed
Datamined and live hotfixes cut Malacrass and Zul’jan intermission max-health buffs by nearly half on every difficulty after Normal Coiled Altar outpaced Normal Ula’tek.
Coiled Altar — the penultimate Venomous Abyss boss — launched wildly out of line. On Normal it was widely called harder than Normal Ula’tek, and Race to World First splits slammed into it early.
Blizzard’s answer: gut the hidden Increase Max Health buffs that slam onto Malacrass and Zul’jan during the Phase 2 → intermission transition.
Health bonus cuts (approx.)
Malacrass
| Difficulty | Was | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 133% | 38% |
| Heroic | 180% | 87% |
| Mythic | 135% | 35% |
Zul’jan
| Difficulty | Was | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 220% | 120% |
| Heroic | 246% | 155% |
| Mythic | 260% | 160% |
Because Ghastly Regeneration heals as a percent of max HP, lower ceilings also mean the final phase ends faster.
Official notes also fixed Coiled Altar soft-locks (encounter ending early / failing to enter Phase 3) in the August 19–20 hotfix waves.
