Talebound Announced: Roguelike ARPG Mode With Echoes of the Worldcore

BlizzCon’s What’s Next panel names Talebound — a solo-or-group story-run mode with three classes, four launch tales, and an October PTR preview.

The Midnight What’s Next panel filled in the standalone mode Blizzard only teased at the opening ceremony. Talebound is a PvE action-RPG run mode — not a 12.2 Eclipse feature. It ships with the Echoes of the Worldcore content update. Wowhead is labeling that drop 12.1.7. No live week yet. An early PTR look is due sometime in October.

How it plays

You run themed stories solo or with friends: enemies, bosses, puzzles, relics, and a reset between attempts. The hub between runs is Quillgrave. Four vendors set up the next tale:

  • Arcanist — potions, draughts, and flasks that can drop in the run
  • Scribe — talents and ability changes
  • Outfitter — starting health, damage, energy, and focus
  • Antiquarian — passives that change how a tale plays

Every class can double jump, dodge, and guard. Positioning is the combat hook.

Classes

These are Talebound kits, not retail specs.

  • Slayer — sword plus gun; the physical monster-hunter
  • Inquisitor — Light magic, including casts you can fire on the move
  • Witch — lightning, poison, spiders, moonlight, thorns, and ravens

Four launch tales

  • Darkhaven — Kongrad von Sonnesheim, the Lord Marshal, and Alexandre Dozsenc, the Blood Bishop
  • Greenthistle Wood — Granny Greenthumb, Ylska Vilefang, and Mobog, the Giant of Greenthistle
  • Greywake’s Expedition — Zzyg’th, the Hadal Tyrant, and Chathoa, the Herald from Beyond
  • Grove of the Night Court — Tilywth, the Fairy Queen, and Maernok, the Nightmare King

Rewards are cosmetics for your Midnight account. Named examples from the official preview: Witch Hunter’s Shadow Attire, the Quillgrave Storyteller’s Lectern, the Quillgrave Talebound Shadowtome, and the Shadowbound Storybook mount. Do not treat that as a full drop table.

This sits after the still-on-PTR 12.1.5 Labyrinths / Kith’ix package and before Eclipse. Winds of Mysterious Fortune is still the live event through September 22.
